ABOUT PIPA

Her past

She arrived at MONA at six or seven months of age. She was the second macaque to arrive.

From a very young age she showed a strong character. Unlike all the other macaques, Pipa has never shown any stress or anxiety behaviors.

Pipa now

Her present

Despite being the leader, it could be said that she leads a quiet life, because she rules the group with an iron fist. In this way, she perpetuates her position, maintaining all of her privileges, such as access to food, the attention of others or the best place to sunbathe during cold winter days.

Her social life

It is common to see her receiving the attention of Katy or Titín in relaxing grooming sessions. And as long as things don’t change, she will continue to be the leader of the group.

Pipa likes

  • Lying in the sun

She loves to lie down on her favorite platform to rest and sunbathe.

  • Flowers

    She loves to eat them.

Anecdotes

When Pipa hunts a small rodent, she takes it everywhere and carries it around for a few days.

Anecdotes

When Pipa interacts with her family, she is strangely silent, even in contexts of aggression.
